Insider Tips for Your Vintage Hunting Day
To make your treasure hunt seamless and enjoyable, here are a few practical tips from our local experience:
Where to Park: Driving in central florence can be tricky due to ZTL (limited traffic zones). For Piazza Indipendenza or Piazza Savonarola, the underground parking lot at Fortezza da Basso or Piazza Libertà are convenient choices. For the Sant'Ambrogio and Largo Annigoni area, you can use the underground Sant'Ambrogio Parking, which leaves you right at the market's doorstep.
The Easiest Way to Get There from Valdirose: If you want to skip the traffic and ZTL entirely, reaching the city center from our home is incredibly easy. You can catch a direct train from the nearby Lastra a Signa train station, which takes you straight to Firenze Santa Maria Novella in just 15 minutes. Alternatively, you can drive to Scandicci, leave your car at the large commuter parking lots (like Villa Costanza or De André), and take the tramway (T1 Line) directly into the heart of Florence.
The Perfect Coffee Break:
Near Piazza Savonarola: Stop by Fancy Bakery & Specialty Coffee (Via Francesco Valori) for an incredible artisanal pastry like their famous croissants or cinnamon rolls, paired with top-tier specialty coffee. It has a lovely, modern, yet welcoming atmosphere.
Near Piazza Indipendenza: Head over to Ala Grande Caffè (also known as Caffè Rosanò on Via San Gallo). It is famous for its outstanding pistachio croissants and the incredibly warm hospitality of the owners. Alternatively, Mò Sì caffetteria (Via Nazionale) offers a fantastic traditional Neapolitan espresso and fresh sfogliatella pastries.
Near Sant'Ambrogio / Largo Annigoni: Enjoy a classic, elegant Italian espresso at Caffè Cibreo, or try a traditional budino di riso (rice pudding tart) at Pasticceria Nencioni, a historic neighborhood favorite since 1950.
Near Santo Spirito: Grab a cappuccino at Volume, a unique café and bar housed inside an old historic wood-carving workshop
